While I don’t have any real expectation of harvesting honey this fall, we thought it would be a good idea to think about what would be needed and start obtaining the equipment.
On Saturday, July 22nd we attended the Serving Heroes National Conference in Kansas City. Serving Heroes is an organization that helps train chaplains and peer support groups to work with law enforcement, EMS, fire departments, and veteran organizations. I have been attending trainings for about 2 years. A really great group of people to work with.
Anyway, while we were there, we went to the Container Store. If you are not familiar with this place, it pretty much comes down to this: if you have a storage need, they will likely have a solution. We went there looking for a container large and light enough to place the honey frames in when we are harvesting honey to suppress robbing by other bees.
This is what we found.

The dimensions were close enough to work with and after we got home this happened.

I just drilled some pilot holes and screwed in wood on the sides to hold up the frames. I think it will work well.
Of course, that not all we’ll need. The gallery below is a summation of other needed equipment. In the interest of transparency, the links below go to Amazon and as an Amazon Associate I receive a commission from qualifying purchases.

We looked into a centrifugal honey extractor, but too much for this year’s budget.
