On Monday, June 12, our friends in Howard County sent us a text and a video stating that they have seen bee activity at the trap. Linda and I tried not to get too excited thinking that we had been here before without much luck.
Well, today we were in Columbia due a PT appointment at the Truman VA Hospital and afterwards since we were close to where they lived, it would be a good day to see what was going on. We were not disappointed.
There was a lot of activity. Bees were coming and going back from foraging. I saw what looked to be bees at the openings watching out for intruders as well as other types of activity. We had checked this trap on June 5th and it was totally and completely empty. This meant this group of bees could have been there for no more than 6 days.
I have a couple of pictures below as well as a pretty good video.
The bees are pretty fast and hard to capture in a picture. I think there is a bee in one of them.

I think the video came out okay.
After seeing this, we decided to check the Callaway County trap. Again, the last time it was checked was June 5th, with no activity noted.
We got out there and most of the front of the trap was covered with bees! It looked like they were going on foraging runs. Now we get excited.
Unfortunately, the trap was too far away to get any any pictures or video. I did borrow the owners binoculars for a closer look. These bees appear to be darker in color than the ones we have at home.
The tentative plan is to recover the traps next Thursday, June 22nd.
One of the traps will be replaced with the new one finished late last week.
