The entire process of making frames has been shown with the exception of wiring them up. That’s what we did today.
Wires are needed to hold the foundation in place. It doesn’t matter if we use strips or a full frame of foundation, it still needs support.
We use pure beeswax foundation similar to the picture below. This year we started with 3 inch strips and finished with 6 inch or so.

In theory, wiring the frame should be pretty easy. You put the frame on the wiring jig, guide the wire through the holes drilled during construction, apply a little tension to make the wire tight, and then fasten the wire to the frame and move on. Reality is not quite the same.

In reality, things like pictured below happen.

The video below shows the process. While it not necessarily easy, it is kind of fun.
We had about 40 frames to potentially wire. In the end two were broke and another 10 needed some adjusting to fit in the jig (if they won’t fit in the jig, they won’t in the hive). So about 28 got wired up today.
Not too bad.
