Sunshine Hive inspection…

6/22/2023

On Tuesday of this week, Linda and I performed an inspection of the Sunshine Hive.

The goals were to check:

  • check population level
  • look for both honey and brood
  • and to check the temperament of the hive

We found:

  • what I considered a good population level
  • there are more honey frames than I expected
  • the brood level might be a little low
  • the temperament of the bees seemed to be normal

A couple of things we looked for were signs that the hive had gone queenless. Queenless bees are often irritated or nervous and can make a high pitched whine combined with a low roar. We did not observe any of these signs.

We did get some pretty good pictures.

The pictures below show the new comb that the bees have made after we brought them home.

A few more:

These pictures were ones that were converted from Langstroth to Layens frames
