We may have bees…

On Saturday, May 6th, some friends were over for supper and conversation. They had heard us talking about trying to capture bees and making bee hives and wanted to see the hives. We walked down to the apiary, opened the top, pulled the backboard back, and we saw a honeybee! Kind of exciting, it was the first sure sighting of one this year.

The bee was a little stunned by the movement and in a few seconds recovered and flew over my shoulder. It had to be a scout.

Over the next few days, Linda and I checked the area twice a day, usually accompanied by Kate and Yogi. No signs of activity.

On May 9th, we saw activity coming from green hive. Not a lot and too quick to get a video or a picture. But there was activity.

More good news

On May 11th, Linda went over to our friends home who had let us setup a swarm trap. Linda asked if they had seen any activity and they hadn’t. Later in the visit they went to take a look. And this is what they saw!

Definitely bees at work. We’ll let them sit for a bit until we take them home.
