The Katy Trail
Katy Trail State Park, is the longest developed rail-trail in the country. The park, built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT or Katy), is 240 miles long and runs between Clinton and Machens. Katy Trail is part of the American Discovery Trail, has been designated as a Millennium Legacy Trail and was added to the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Hall of Fame in 2008.
Linda and I do a lot of hiking on this trail, particularly in the Mokane, Jefferson City, and Portland area. We also like the Rocheport and New Franklin sections of the trail. Our hikes range in mileage from 5 to 10.
What I started noticing in the July and August time frame was how diverse the wildflowers were and the crazy number of bees we saw.
The pictures below is just a small sample of what we saw. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture the bees in the pictures.
