Geranium Maverick Appleblossom – aka Cranesbill

The Maverick Appleblossom Geranium is a hybrid variety known for its vigorous growth and high tolerance for heat. It produces massive flower heads in white and soft pink, mimicking the look of an appleblossom. This geranium reaches a height of 16 – 18 inches with strong branching, making it a standout choice for gardens. It is also butterfly-friendly and performs well in warm climates, tolerating full sun to partial shade and continuing to flower from spring through fall without fading. The geranium thrives in neutral to slightly alkaline soil that is well-drained and moderately moist, making it an easy-to-grow option for various garden settings.

How to Sow and Plant
Place seeds in a moist paper towel to soften the shell for 34 hours or so, then plant in a cell tray or seed flat, covering seeds with 1/8″growing media. Soil 7-9 weeks or 9-11 weeks for seeding containers. Light is not required for germination. Water these well and cover with a propagation dome. Keep the soil surface moist. These will need a temp of 65f to 75f to germinate and should sprout in 7-10 days at 70-75 degrees F. Transplant (recommended) After germination, maintain an average temperature range of 60-75°F (16-24°C). Harden off and transplant outside after the danger of frost. Deadheading spent blooms greatly encourages plant growth.

How to Save Seeds: Wait for the flowers to fade and a green seed pod to form, which will then mature to a dark brown color. Place the pods in a paper bag to allow them to dry completely and pop open, which collects the seeds inside. Store the fully dried seeds in a labeled envelope or bag in a cool, dark, and dry place, such as a refrigerator.
