Hanging the swarm traps…
In early 2023, preparations for swarm trapping began. Beeswax starter strips were attached to frames using a heat gun. The traps were baited with propolis, lemongrass essential oil, and slow-release tubes. Trial traps were hung, and then three traps were placed in various locations. The process awaits the arrival of swarms.

Setting up the apiary…
The decision on the apiary placement led to choosing a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade. Despite the rough condition, clearing and setting up the apiary took two days, with concern for dead trees. Moving the hives was challenging, but the result was satisfying, with a potential picnic spot.

Field Trip!
In November 2022, after family time, I visited my cousin in south Missouri to observe and help with fall hive inspection. She recommended protective gear, and we inspected Langstroth and horizontal hives, handling bees for the first time. We treated the hives for mites, collected honey, and I got stung. It was a valuable experience.
