Time is moving quickly, perhaps too quickly. We are now in the middle of February, 2023.
Almost forgot!
I had a rough checklist to make sure everything got completed, but somehow stands didn’t make the list. Linda and I were looking at the hives she was getting ready to decorate and one of us said, “What are we going to put them on?” Good question, what indeed.
I went to https://horizontalhive.com to see what Dr. Leo had to offer. What I found was a great plan for a really simple functional stand. The plans can be found at this link.
The plans call for one 2″ x 6″ x 8′, one 2″ x 4″ x 8′, and a few screws. That’s about as easy as it gets.
What kind of wood to use?
This took a bit of thought. I wanted to use something that would last a long time. According to this website, Cedar is “a durable wood that is naturally resistant to rot, decay and insect attacks, and resists moisture absorption, so it tends to last longer, needs less maintenance, and doesn’t warp or split as easily.” Because of these characteristics, I decided to use cedar to build the stands.
I found some great pieces to use at Lowe’s.
These were a breeze to construct. Each one took less than an hour. Wish all projects went this well.
